Water: The Underestimated Super Nutrient
We all know that it is important to drink water… but why?!
Here’s the thing, clean water is actually a nutrient. One of the most important nutrients in fact. We fuel our bodies with nutrient-dense foods, but water is lost much more easily than other nutrients.
How is water “lost”? We lose water through our skin as sweat, through normal bodily functions, and even just from breathing! This is why it is so important to drink water throughout your entire day!
You’d be surprised how easily you can be tricked into thinking that thirst is something else, like hunger, skin problems, or being tired. It happens ALL THE TIME!
The amazing thing is that by drinking a gallon of water (16 cups) a day, you can reap an incredible amount of health benefits! I am telling you, once you start making this a habit, you won’t want to stop!
Almost right away you will notice an increase in energy, a clearer head - making it easier to focus, clear skin which translates to less wrinkles, weight loss, and decreased bloat and constipation. Which in turn will lead to your clothes fitting better! Whoop whoop!! And these are just a few of the amazing benefits from drinking water!
Drinking a gallon (16 cups) of water can feel daunting at first, so here are some helpful tips to keep you hydrated throughout the day.
Set an alarm to remind yourself to drink up! You can set it for every 30 mins, hour or whatever interval is manageable for you!
Make it exciting by adding fruit (fresh or frozen) and herbs to your water. Allow to infuse for 4 hours, or overnight, to get all the natural benefits from the added fruits and herbs. Prep several different options in mason jars. Best part, you get to enjoy the yummy fruit once you’ve drank your water.
Add a pinch of pink himalayan salt to your water! This will help to ensure your body is absorbing the nutrients.
Buy a larger water bottle. I fill my 2L water bottle every morning and it comes with me EVERYWHERE!
It’s easy to ensure you’re drinking enough water in the warmer months as you’re more active and are looking for water to quench your thirst, but it’s just as important to ensure you’re drinking enough everyday. Staying hydrated helps to ensure your body functions at its best, keeps your skin hydrated and also aids in digestion. Oh, and remember, those yummy smoothies you add into your day counts towards your 16 cups.
By implementing these few simple tips, drinking enough water will be a breeze, and trust me, you are going to notice a huge difference in how you feel!
Happy hydrating, friend!
