How To Reboot Your Internal Alarm Clock

I know many look forward to the weekend, everyone’s favorite time to binge watch a few of their favorite episodes or stay up a little longer reading.

It’s okay to burn the midnight oil every now and then, but did you know our bodies crave a consistent sleep schedule? It’s true! So going to bed a little later her and there is okay, but consistently going to bed later and sleeping in can actually throw off your routine more than you know! Our bodies will actually THRIVE when we get into a better pattern of sleeping and waking at the same time every day - or close to the same time.

Here are some tip and tricks to get you back on track and reboot your internal alarm clock:

  1. Start to unwind at least 1 hour before bedtime. That means NO cell phones, television or computers. Instead take a warm bath or shower.

  2. Brain Dump - write down whatever is swirling around in your head. You know those last few items you were not able to get to today, or what needs to get done first thing the next day.

  3. Meditate or journal your thoughts/feelings for the day.

  4. Ensure your room is dark enough with NO distractions.

  5. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you did the night before and set your alarm and GET OUT OF BED whether you want to or not. Then the next night go to bed 40 minutes earlier and wake at the same time. The next night an hours earlier and wake at the same time.

Before you know it you will be ready to go to bed and find yourself waking up before your alarm goes off - feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day!

Don’t be so quick to throw out your new sleeping patterns aside on the weekends either! Continue to prioritize quality sleep every day of the week so you can look and feel your BEST!
